Bennie Madigan turns 109

Bernice Madigan, who left Cheshire, Mass., at the age of 18 to work in Washington, DC, returned home last fall and celebrated her 109th birthday on Saturday with more than 100 people, some from her longtime home in Maryland. Read the full story at www.iberkshires.com

After living our entire lives in the Berkshires, my friend and I have challenged ourselves to visit the many beautiful and historic treasures that are all around us. This is our first installment of the “hidden treasures” that we’ve visited.

    She lived across from my brother and sister-in-law in Silver Spring before she moved north. Got to meet her when she was a mere 108.

    Bennie was our neighbor in Silver Spring, MD. Her age is getting all the attention, but even more important is what a wonderful person she is. It was always a pleasure to visit Aunt Bennie; our children adored her. Bennie you are a great role model for all of us. Terry and Pat
